We’ve all heard of Tessa Bailey, so when I saw book 2 come up on my newsfeed, I figured ok - Women’s Fiction and RomCom. Let’s start with Book 1, and I was able to get it at my local library. I really got attached to the characters early on, and then BAM - spice scene :( ugh. Y’all know I hate spice. Many of y’all will say this was MILD - for me it was almost too much. But I said ok, I was already about 40% into the book, and I had already felt a connection with the characters, so I kept reading.
Overall it was a good book, TOTALLY could have done without the spice but I pushed through and more “skimmed” the sections. There were only 2 really bad scenes, but the characters are well developed and I felt like they were friends I’d known for a while. I love the fact this took on a lesser known sport (I know, we’re all burned out on football and hockey romances by now). Tessa Bailey really knows how to hook you from the beginning of the story, and I can appreciate that as most authors start slow and it takes a while for you to feel connected - not in this case. I love that she put Josephine (FMC) is a predominantly male dominate4d role, which really plays well into the story (female caddie, separate locker rooms). Hoping all of her books are like this (I have the next in the series on hold at the library.)
I know I’m strict on the no spice, and that’s still going to be my stance. Because this story had a good base and plot, I was able to overlook the 2 spice scenes and still really enjoyed the story. I loved the banter between the characters, the fact that her family is part of the story (due to her autoimmune disease), and there were definitely scenes where I laughed out loud. If yoou can manage a little spice (or even enjoy a little), tthis would be a good series for you. I’ll update as I read the rest (Book 2 just came out “The Au Pair Affair”, Book 3 “Dream Girl Drama” & Book 4 “Pitcher Perfect” are scheduled for February & September 2025).
